Fogarassy was one of the most important art collectors in Austria before and after World War II. He acquired prints by Egon Schiele before he graduated from high school. He began collecting works by Schiele before 1938. From the 1950s, he bought mostly at Galerie Würthle. The gallery later sold parts of his collection.
