The contrast of the abstract curves of the pipes and the straight lines of the building intrigued me. This old Cape Cod building still stands-or rather, floats. When I painted it, it seemed like a solid symbol of stability. However, as the years passed, the ocean crept up to its doorstep and began to undermine its foundation. Just before it sank, it was rescued, placed on a raft, and floated to Provincetown, where it floats on an uneasy berth.

Some people may not find much beauty in old pipes. But when i came across a pile of them one day, I was struck by their abstract rhythms and their textures.
